Torvald (an affecting Chris Cooper) never filed the divorce papers, and a judge, whose wife has left him after reading one of Nora’s books, is out for revenge. But what comes across as a little less than cathartic, in 2023, is Nora’s final realization that she must break free from everything she’s known to go find herself. It’s done as a moment of liberation — a call by a woman, for all women — to stop orbiting and find a new path, free from the constraints of old ideas. In this revival, what’s left is a beautiful, spacious clarity about what this oft-produced play is about, who these characters are, what they mean to one another and how they may (or may not) impact audiences of today. There is nothing but dialogue pared down by playwright Amy Herzog (the rare woman interpreting “A Doll’s House,” at least on Broadway) and played with great skill by most of the actors in the production.

But, of course, let’s go back to that actress on the turntable, so placid that audience members hardly notice her when they enter the theater. Shelby (Gaby Diaz), a mutual friend and Carl’s first love, who falls gravely ill. And Douglas (Ahmad Simmons), who sees and claims Henry’s adult heart with an acceptance that can seem strangely and even alarmingly miraculous. The imagery conjures a supernatural patchwork of revenants and Superman. The content of these nightmares and obsessions doesn’t always resonate.

Admittedly, the book by playwright Jackie Sibblies Drury and director and choreographer Justin Peck is more of an evolving scenario than a discernible drama. A compromise is struck between the theater’s proclivity for story and dance’s penchant for abstraction, allowing audience members to connect narrative strands in their own way. Its themes — including the flipping of traditional gender roles and the need for autonomy, even within a relationship — remain timeless. Hello, I am Randy Hart and I have been blessed with the incredible privilege of serving as Worship Director here at Hope Church of Metrolina. My journey in this role has been filled with awe, gratitude and a deep sense of purpose. Growing up in Kannapolis Nc I was taught to play guitar at a young age by my grandfather. Later in my teenage years I had the privilege of playing guitar in a youth band and eventually leading worship in church services and in a Christian band. I have a desire to simply to lead others in the worship of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

At their General Convention in uptown Charlotte Thursday, delegates from churches all over the world voted to allow different geographic regions to make their own rules about ministry. Called “regionalization,” it’s seen as a possible first step for Methodist congregations in the U.S. to remove long-standing bans on same-sex marriage and openly gay clergy. Pastor has traveled extensively international (4-6) four to six mission trips annually, leading Pastor Conferences, in Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, and Africa.

Simply put…we don’t have all the flash/smoke/mirrors/performances that others have. We don’t have the best programs for children/youth/singles/adults/seniors that others have – and we don’t have the fanciest facilities that others have.

Community groups are where we integrate new visitors,  grow in our faith, care for one another’s mercy needs, pray and grieve together. Having multiple congregations allows us to create smaller, more intimate communities while also effectively collaborating on our shared mission and vision. We hope to be a gospel movement that redemptively impacts individuals, communities, our city, and the world. As a result of the overflowing that is taking place both into and out of Hope, we feel that the Lord is calling us to take intentional steps to continue participating in this great Kingdom work.

It is a humbling experience and I often find myself in awe of the beauty of those moments. I’m constantly learning and seeking to grow in my relationship with God and striving to be a better servant. Worship at Hope is more than music, more than a gathering, more than brief moments together in a service.

God has used these two elements– Gospel Community and Gospel Preaching– to change people in remarkable ways. Outside of Sunday morning corporate worship, the main place this type of community is fostered is in our community groups. Community groups meet during the week, usually 3x per month, and are the heart and soul of where real change happens at Hope.

Additionally, HOPE has developed a partnership with a mission in Mozambique & Uganda, Africa where he has lead (5) five separate summer mission trips. He’s a Pastor’s Pastor, working both locally and internationally to help support, love, encourage, sharpen other Pastors. Matt was born and raised in the small farming town of Mullins, SC.

Growing up, most of his time was spent playing sports or hunting with his dad and 2 brothers. He grew up in the church but did not understand the gospel of grace and as a result he didn’t love Jesus (or anyone else) half as much as he loved himself. The elders, deacons, women’s shepherding team members, and staff within each congregation come together to form a Congregational Care Team. From our Sunday gatherings to the HOPE Street Food Pantry, HOPE is a place where questions are met with truth, lives are changed by kindness, and grace is revealed in all we say and do. Those involved in the Music & Worship Department have the opportunity to use their talents to worship God and to lead others in worship as well. We want to be a source of encouragement, a source of hope, a source of peace, a source of joy, a source of inspiration…and we want to do that while pointing each worshiper to the ultimate source…Jesus Christ.
